Ken Bortolazzo is on the show today. He’s a sculptor who works in stainless steel, from very large scale works to the current selection of small pieces on show this month and next at Sullivan Goss. He calls these pieces optikinetics, which are kinetic sculptures that produce interestic moire patterns when they move. The show is called “Protosynthesis” and it’s definitely worth checking out.
I used the opening last First Thursday to invite Ken to be on the show and he accepted and one day last week we sat down in his kitchen over a cup of coffee and had this chat. We talk about his history, of the jobs he had before getting into sculpture, and his 12 year apprenticeship with sculptor George Rickey.
We had a great time talking, wandering around his garden, and checking out the workshop as well, and I want to thank Sullivan Goss for making this happen.
He doesn’t have his own presence on the web, but Sullivan Goss has a nice page on him, so go to sullivangoss.com/bortolazzo_ken
